How to operate a successful casual raiding? This guide is meant to illustrate the finer points of operating. We will start with a list of goals, and in the sections that follow, lay out a plan for achieving them.
1. Create a fun, accommodating atmosphere whereby the entirety of a diverse raiding group can both enjoy and enhance raid progression.
2. Cater to raiders with limited play‐time and those that log many, many hours per week. “Casual” and “hardcore”, if you will.
3. Put the needs of the group above those of any individual.
4. Focus on progression and new content above all else.
5. Approach raiding with a high level of focus, and be very serious about the time spent preparing for and actively raiding.
6. Efficiently and fairly deal with logistical tasks such as scheduling, slotting and loot. Also swiftly and justly resolve any conflicts that may arise.
7. Slot raids based on what the encounter requires, and not based purely on any all‐encompassing metrics such as attendance, skill, gear, etc. Strive to give every player his or her chance to raid.
8. Emphasize team work, communication and cooperation. Only ever offer advice that is constructive, and encourage raiders to work together to improve performance.
9. Hold raiders accountable for their attitude, actions, preparation and raid performance.
10. Reward effort, reliability, consistency, time invested and skill. Typically in that order of importance.
11. Clearly lay out the expectations and responsibilities for all members, including signup procedures, being on time, and raiding.
12. Make no obvious in‐guild distinction between raiding and non‐raiding members or “casual” and “hardcore” raiders.
